National Economics Students Debate

P3 Africa provided support to the University of Nairobi through the Economics Students Association of Kenya (KESA) in holding the 3rd National Economics Student Debate. This event brought approximately 1500 students from universities across Kenya to exchange ideas under the theme: “Sustainable Education: Beyond Access”. Students gathered in the Manu Chandaria Auditorium at the University of Nairobi Main Campus for a full day event that comprised of keynote speeches, panel discussions and debate semi-finals and finals rounds.
AIR's Managing Director-Kenya Christine Kiecha gave an opening address at the event emphasizing on the need to confront critical issues surrounding sustainable education financing and to develop innovative solutions that ensure equitable access to education.
A gift giving session where members of the KESA committee invited guests of the event on stage to present them with gifts
Finalists of the debate rounds presenting their key points to the panel of judges. Key points under discussion included sustainable education financing, spatial disparities in access to quality education, financing tertiary education, student loans and graduate taxes, skills gap and Africa’s demographic dividend.
