About P3 ENGAGE Mentoring
Rationale and Goals
“If you cannot see where you are going, ask someone who has been there before.” — J. Loren Norris
As part of P3 networking and career advancement activities, we established the mentoring program known as P3 ENGAGE to support graduate students in exploring career opportunities in research, evaluation, and research-to-practice (i.e., technical assistance). P3 ENGAGE matches second and third-year doctoral students who (a) are preparing for their qualifying exams, (b) have completed their qualifying exams, or (c) are in the proposal and dissertation phases of their graduate studies with preeminent researchers and scholars in the behavioral and social science fields. In addition to providing academic support, these mentoring relationships will allow students to explore career options and expand their network with experts, leaders, and other professionals in the field.
Recognizing the benefits of mentoring, P3 ENGAGE Mentoring seeks to achieve the following:
Develop authentic relationships with leading scholars outside a student’s program of study.
Explore ways to advance the integration of diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural and linguistic competence as guiding principles within BSSR research.
Reflect and share experiences through meaningful conversations. Interact with expert scholars and receive feedback on research processes, concepts, and methodologies.
Cultivate peer mentoring relationships.
Learn about relevant resources related to students’ areas of focus.
Expand students’ professional networks to facilitate career growth and promote career readiness.
